The Kodokan Judo Institute

Conradie taught Kodokan Judo with which the small could overpower the big, the thin the fat and the weak the strong. Unlike that which required weight lifting and wrestling.  Kodokan International Link KODOKAN JUDO INSTITUTE JAPAN


Mr Kheirin Conradi served in the 2nd world war and became a Judo instructor in the  Airforce. Because of the Apartheid South Africa, his club was restricted to non-whites who were not welcome at white clubs.

He opened his Wynberg Club in the early 60's and taught there until he died. Faried de Bruyns took the club over succeeded by Yusuf Felix; both trained with Mr Conradie since an early age. The club is now well over 50 years old. In the 60's and 70's the club had many branches. Forced removals of non-whites reduced the clubs. Efforts at opening new clubs were hampered by the lack of youth centers in new residential areas.

Judo Conradie is now reviving clubs at our primary and high schools by offering free classes.
